Blogging is funny. I haven't done a update on 'regular life' for a looong time - mostly because I think it might bore people or because I'm starting to like trying to write about issues/feeling....altho I feel like I'm not very good at those ones. But, reading over my old posts has made me want to do more 'everyday' kinda post. And really, if it bores you - that's too bad cuz it's my blog! ;) It's a awesome way for me to journal our lives and even greater when I want to go back and read them 2, 5 or 20 years from now.
So, saddle up. This is going to be long!

For starters, today is a snow day! We've been stuck in a blizzard for the past 2 days, and so my Mom phoned last night to say that our pastor cancelled church! Feels like a snow day when I was back in elementary! Altho, going to church isn't at all the drag going to school used to be ;)

Yesterday was the ultimate of relaxing days. Going outside was out of the question, so we hunkered down and were full on lazy! Throughout the day we made 3 pots of coffee and boiled the kettle for tea/hot chocolate twice!

This past week potty training has commenced. We've had good days and bad days - which I think is par for the course, but overall he's figuring it out! Good thing it's too cold to go outside so we have plenty of time to just sit around.

Last week I ordered 3 girlie cloth diapers. The store I get them from had a Boxing week sale so I got a good deal and wanted to try out the new versions of the FuzziBunz and BumGenius.
I've always been a BG fan, but after trying the new FB ones, I think I'm sold! The older versions not so much, but the newest version of the one size ones are awesome!

I'm not so great at remembering to put Kalli down for 'tummy time'. I'm getting better since I can trust Kellan more around her. She has successfully rolled both ways (!) but she's not too interested in mastering those concepts. She is happy just to kick and flail. The other day when she was on her tummy, she was getting tired and kinda fussing with her head in the ground. Kellan thought it was hilarious and was being a copycat:

He is really good with his little sister. He's loving that she is way more alert and especially that she laughs at his goofiness.

Kalli is almost 5 months. GULP! Seriously! I remember my s-i-l always saying that with your first baby you are always pushing them to do the next thing, but the 2nd/following babies you keep trying to hold them back and wish them to stay babies. I am indeed finding this true!
Reading through my posts when Kellan was a baby, at 5 months I was starting to introduce solids. Nope, not this time. She's all milk for at least another month.
Milk and chew toys of course:

I haven't seen any pearly whites yet, but she's acting like she is teething. Not too fussy but drooly and always chewing on something!

My Mom had dug out all of our baby clothes the other day so she sent them home with me to put them on Kalli. I don't have any 'then' pics to show with this outfit, but it's cute none-the-less!

Things are changing around our house a little bit. Recently, Brian was offered a business opportunity that my Dad was starting to set up. I won't confuse you or bore you with all the details, but basically this business is cleaning grain (with a big trailer full of equiptment) for other farmers. They can then get a better 'grade' for their grain and then sell it for a better price or clean their seed grain before planting.
So anyways, lately Brian has been putting in some long days as he gets things going. It will be a seasonal job too but kinda works around/along side the farming season. He will be busier BUT since it is his own thing he has the flexibility to make it what he wants and work it around the life we want for our family. We are very thankful for this opportunity and it is so great for Brian to have his 'own thing'.

Well it's now 8:39 and our house is still quiet. Must be time to put the coffee pot #1 on tho!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Bring on winter!

I thought I had him, but he slipped away on me again. But this time only for a couple days.
We finished combining last night (!!!), so he was home 'early' at 9 pm.
This morning he went over to a neighbors to do some custom combining for them, which means 2 more long days.
BUT Friday morning we are headed to the city for a little post harvest vay-kay, some shopping, and a visit with Brian's brother & s-i-l (who are there for the w/e).
We are super excited about some time away & together and the chance to visit with some family too!
It's been a long harvest, so I am eager to enjoy the rest of this fall WITH my husband!

More point form

- down to only one feed at night at 4:30. Yep I'm spoiled.

- I secretly like Glee.

- with Brian working his long harvest hours, I thought that these days flying solo would be hard - but they actually haven't been too bad. True, we still have another month or two of it...

- this morning I ran errands with our double stroller. Even tho I feel like I'm pushing a train I LOVE it!

- I eat a TON these days. And I crave sugar.

- we have our 6 week check up tomorrow.

Fall is here

I should go have a shower. Actually I REALLY should go exercise then have a shower.
NAH! I'm gonna blog!

Yesterday afternoon after K's nap we went and rode around with Brian in the combine. Kellan is all boy! The noise and the machines didn't bother him at all. He was pretty enthralled actually. After a while it got a little boring so I put him on the floor of the combine and he picked away at peices of straw and grain (possible even ingesting a few). After our ride we went and helped my Mom with supper then took it out to the field.

I'm on 'main course' duty tonight for supper so I have the meat thawing on the counter. I'm not too familiar with cooking for so many people so I welcome the experience even if it is a little nerve-wracking.

Pink bib? Let me explain...

This summer, my parents business took them a few hours north spraying for grasshoppers. A local hutterite colony up there booked a large amount of work so my parents took their equipment to the colony and 'set up shop' in their yard. Anyways, my Mom got quite involved with the hutterite women and 'became one' for a week. She became good friends with a few of the ladies, one which made this pink bib for Kellan. :)

The past couple days it's been stinkin' hot here. I think it was 31-32 degrees here yesterday - very unusual for September. Kellan and I decided to enjoy the heat (which I'm sure will be the last time before winter sets in) so we played on the grass with the garden hose and a bucket. Kellan loves water and he had a great time.

His improvised crawling since the dry grass was prickly on his knees.

Yesterday morning I took Kellan to get his 9 month weight check. I think it is a little ridiculous that I have to do the monthly weights but my Dr. thinks it's important. I actually don't really mind since I kinda get a kick out of filling in all the blanks in Kellan's baby book. Not sure if I will be able to keep up with all the kids tho ;)

Anyways, here is the 9 month shot/stats:

17 lbs 13 oz. Still in the 10th % for weight.

Wow I take WAY too many pictures of Kellan!

Ok, off I go!

It's been a while

I'm having a hard time blogging lately. This morning I am forcing myself to blog - not sure what I'm gonna write...

I guess I'll start with yesterday - Kellan and I braved the city. We did pretty good. Kellan didn't sleep much but was a trooper. I prepped myself before hand to not expect it to be a very successful shopping trip so I wouldn't be disappointed if we came home in tears and empty handed. But we did suprisingly well and I added a few items to my suffering wardrobe.

Brian is still working long days and I'm trying to not complain :) I tend to be needy in the 'time with hubby' category. But actually it hasn't been that bad. I usually come out and help my Mom with supper so I get to see him for a few minutes while we eat, and he's usually home by 10 so another few minutes there. Harvest is about 1/2 done - only a couple more weeks.

That's all I can muster up right now. Hopefully I can get back into the swing of writing.

Boy Oh Boy!

Kellan is growing up in front of our eyes!! It seems like this last month has just went by so fast and everyday it seems like everyday he is doing something new. Yesterday I went through all his clothes...once again taking all the too small ones and replacing them with the bigger ones.
As I am typing I am listening to the little voice yell out for his momma while he is supposed to be napping. I can picture his little eyes peering out over the top of the crib rail with his little hands hanging on. His cute fluffy light brown hair all over the place and his ever so precious face....how am I supposed to walk away from that?!?

---pause to re-lay little boy down and remind him it's nap time---

Yep, just as I suspected. Those eyes get me every time :)

So, that is our new adventure - pulling himself up to stand. He's done it once or twice a day for the last week or so, but yesterday I'm sure he did it 30+ times. BUSY BOY! He is even starting to cruise along the furniture. He's just figuring his legs have to move with his arms when reaching for something on the coffee table. As skinny as they are - he has some tough legs!

Brian has been working looong hours. My 'love language' is TIME so it's not so fun :( But my Mom watched Kellan every once-in-a-while while I go and ride around with him. He left early this morning after getting in late last night. He's going to be late again tonight...and for the rest of the month....BOOO!

Short long weekend

Brian's brother is here for a few days for a visit....light on the visit part tho. Harvest is kicking into full gear and so he's helping out with that. He flew in on Friday afternoon and Brian brought him straight to the farm and got him working.

(enhanced just a wee bit):

Yesterday tho we were able to take a break and relax. We slept in and had breakfast at lunch :) The boys played some tennis, we went skeet shooting with my Dad and then rented a movie and made pizza. Fun!

Now the boys are back in the fields and I'm cleaning up the mess we made here yesterday. Well actually....I'm quite obviously taking a break :)

Kellan is on the move! He's crawling everywhere and starting to pull himself up to stand. The other day I had to rearrange my living room and make it a little more baby friendly. He is working on his 4th tooth right now and is once again a super teether! We're still hanging on to breastfeeding. At least once, maybe one or two more 1/2 feeds if I catch him when he's still waking up. I'm good with that. I'm not yet ready to let that go - so I'm glad he's allowing me the privelege to keep on going for a while.

This year I haven't been doing much for canning or preserving vegetables. We planted less of a garden this year, which has actually been just about perfect. I can't keep ahead of the zucchini (as usual) but we've been enjoying tons of fresh yummy veggies. I would like to make salsa when the tomatoes are ready but that won't be for a while. When Brian's parents came to visit a couple weeks ago (more on that later), his Mom and I made 2 batches of jam, which turned out really great so that was fun. Peaches for some reason haven't really been a big seller around here. Not sure why but I have been waiting for the boxes to come in but I guess I might have missed them.

So, Brian's parents came a couple weeks ago. I think I blogged a bit about that but not much. We had a great time when they were here. Brian's Dad wasn't feeling very good for a few days so that was too bad but we had a good time visiting and letting them babysit for a bit and fill up on hugs and cuddles with little K.

Brrr!

Feels like fall is around the corner.
I have the heater on again this morning! Brrr!

We had a good weekend. Watched a few movies, took a couple walks and enjoyed being just the 3 of us.

Our garden is exploding with goodness! The last of the peas were eaten and there is a row of beans waiting to picked. We've been enjoying fresh baby potatoes and I have a killer crop that will last us through the winter! The tomato bushes are loaded with green gems and we've eaten almost all of the fresh carrots....should have planted more :(
Ahhh, I love my garden!

Harvest will soon be upon is. Brian said they should start combining this week. And so it begins...
Brian has been working hard on getting all the machinery ready for the season. I'm looking forward to hanging out with him in this beast for a few hours. I'm sure my Mom won't mind being Grandma!

Thursday evening we went golfing at our friends homemade golf course. Everyone has one of those right?

Last night we went out to my parents place for supper. My Grandma, aunt and cousin were visiting for the day so we thought we would catch in on the visit too. She's doing fairly well since my Grandpa passed away this summer. She loved snuggling with Kellan as usual, and he even enjoyed it too. I guess she has the touch.

Gotta run.

Highchair Adventures

Look at me! I can drink from a sippy cup all by myself! (Not sure if me or my mom are more proud!) :)

We leave for Osoyoos in 7 days! BEYOND EXCITED!!! Is it too early to start packing?
Brian and his family used to go camping there almost every summer as they were growing up so we thought we would start up the tradition again. We are meeting most of his family again for a whole week - we'll be missing his oldest brother & family tho :( The week together starts the 11th so we'll leave the Thursday (hopefully) before that and camp a couple nights along the way.

Yesterday we celebrated Canada Day in the town we go to church at. Brian was asked to run 'the sound' for the event. They brought in a few singers to entertain for the afternoon, so it was fun to watch Brian in action, and of course listen to the music.
It was a fairly hot day - not too hot to stay outside, but hot enough to feel your skin sizzle. As the day went on (and my skin continued to sizzle), Brian looked at me and said "oh, you are getting red, you should take your (big) necklace off". Whoops - too late. I now have a semi-permanent necklace :)
Kellan did really well in the heat. He layed underneath the sound booth (aka: picnic table) for a while and took short naps under a blanket. He grew out of his sun hat a while ago (only wore it 3 times!) so his head is a bit pink, but if he is anything like his parents, it will quickly turn into a nice little tan. Doesn't seem to bother him so I think we're ok.

Taking after his mom - can't sit 'normal'. I always have to have a knee up, or legs crossed or feet up.

A couple nights ago we had the most glorious rain!!! We've been SO dry this spring - almost in the panic drought mode, so it was so great to hear & see the moisture falling! We got 5-6/10 of an inch (for you farmers at heart) so that will help out the crops a bit! They are 'calling' for showers the next few days so we are hoping (& praying) for another good soak!

Check out my pearly whites! (click pic to get a close up)

Well I better get at the day - still in my pajamas! (yikes!)
My parents are camping for the week so I am on watering flowers duty today. We'll make Brian some lunch today too and hang out with him at work for a bit.
I also need to clean the truck out today so it's ready to go for our trip. It's full of winter sand/gravel.
Ok, off I go...
